The Most Exciting New Beauty Arrivals This Month

The new season brings a host of exciting new beauty arrivals to try.

There are stunning new eye and lip colour arrivals to compliment Autumn’s new outfits, while brightening skincare targets that pigmentation that’s turned up after a summer in the sun.

There’s affordable new essentials and luxurious trophy skincare too. Here’s what’s worth considering on beauty counters and online now:

If you’re of the mind that Urban Decay should move on from its wildly popular Naked palette franchise, pay no mind, but we’re actually quite partial to the desert-inspired neutrals in the new Urban Decay Naked Wild West Eyeshadow Palette, $91, ranging from pale peach, warm brown, and metallic bronze to deep blue-green and soft turquoise shimmer.

Combination skin types will love Trilogy Hemphip Balancing Oil, $22.99, a lightweight blend of star ingredients hemp and rosehip oil. Combination skin means some areas of your skin (typically around the T-zone – think forehead, nose and chin) are oily, while other areas like your cheeks, have dry patches. This facial oil is designed to balance the skin’s oil and water content so everything evens out and is easier to manage.

A fresh, modern-looking finish that lasts for hours is the premise of Dior’s lightweight new Dior Forever Natural Nude Foundation, $109. Containing a high concentration of water and the balance of 96% natural-origin ingredients, the fresh, medium-coverage foundation calls on botanical extracts to leave skin in great condition even after you rinse it away.  There are 17 shades.

Claiming to begin to budge dark spots in just days, Dermalogica’s Power Bright Dark Spot Serum, $180 also calls on Niacinamide (Vitamin B) as well as Phenolic Lipid to help fade the patchy spots. The daily serum also calls on Shiitake Mushroom – rich in beta glucans – to brighten skin, while adaptogenic Ashwagandha herb smoothes and delivers antioxidant benefits.

The arrival of Milk Makeup in NZ is a worthy topic of conversation this month! Hot property overseas and all over social media, the vegan and cruelty-free line from NYC has just landed at Sephora. Top picks are the stick based serums, Tik-Tok famous long-wear Hydro-Grip Primer, $56, and Lip and Cheek Minis, $32, that offer a pop of gel colour for cheeks and lips.

Another item in hot demand right now is Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara, $28.99. The tubing formula defines and extends lashes beautifully and comes off easily in warm water without even needing makeup remover.

The Ordinary is known for its high-quality low-cost skincare, in particular it’s targeted serums. However the brand’s foray into makeup with two foundation formulations has received less attention, which is a shame because for the price – under $15 – they are very good. Now The Ordinary Concealer, $12.60, has been added to the line with 21 shades at a similarly accessible price. With a thin, easy to spread consistency and highly pigmented coverage, a little goes a long way but it’s equally good for covering blemishes or under the eyes.

If lips are feeling dry and flaky, skipping dry matte lipstick for a nourishing hint of colour is a great idea. We can’t go past the playful style of Bobbi Brown’s new Crushed Shine Jelly Sticks, $50, that delivers a sheer popsicle hint of tint and are formulated with hyaluronic acid and fruit oils like apricot, sweet cherry, and papaya

Estee Lauder’s Perfectionist Pro Rapid Brightening Treatment with Ferment² + Vitamin C, $158, is a daily serum solution that hones in on dark spots and post acne marks while obvious pores and dullness are given the heave-ho too. Want a head start? Try the month-long course of Estee Lauder Perfectionist Pro Intense Brightening Essence Ampoules, $218, that contains a concentrated dose for a clean sweep or before a special occasion.

The striking colourful round stoppers are the first thing you notice about Jo Malone’s Limited edition Blossoms collection, but the bright and cheerful scents are just as captivating. Our pick of the bunch is Jo Malone London Red Hibiscus Cologne Intense 50ml, $297, a vivid solar floral that’s warm and deep, the perfect tran-seasonal scent.

Intended to represent the optimism of the colour yellow in fragrance form, Valentino Donna Born In Roma Yellow Dream 50ml EDP, $187, has a heart of blooming rose with zesty citrus top notes.

At $3140, we’re hard pressed to think of another skincare item ever priced so high, but such is the allure of the high-tech science and skin-improving ability of legendary Swiss skincare brand La Prairie. It’s new month-long Platinum Rare Haute-Rejuvenation Protocol intensive treatment promises to re-establish skin’s density, minimise fine lines and wrinkles and promote its firmness and elasticity.
