5 of the best new restaurants in Brisbane

2019 has seen a whole host of new restaurants open their doors (some refurbished doors) to add to an already exciting mix in Brisbane. Here’s a look at five of our favourite best new restaurants in Brisbane:

Polpetta, The Fantauzzo

Polpetta is one of four food and beverage outlets to open at The Fantauzzo, the new Art Series Hotel under the Story Bridge. And, while Brisbane may already be home to several great Italian restaurants, there’s no harm in having too many pasta options in one city.

The Italian kitchen and bar at the six-storey boutique hotel is, like Brisbane itself, is laidback and relaxed. Styled after the trattorias that tumble onto the piazzas in Rome, the new casual spot overlooks the new Howard Smith Wharves’ hub.

Here, taste Polpetta’s namesake dish: veal and pork polpetta, tomato sugo and smoked scamorza with a side of grilled broccolini and smoked almonds. 5 Boundary Street

Donna Chang

Crushed velvet, crystal chandeliers and Cantonese cuisine. This glamourous new modern Chinese restaurant takes Asian fine dining to another level – and era.

Donna Chang has taken over a 1920s-era bank in the city centre with a luxe fit-out that is unique to the Brisbane food scene. An extensive menu heavy on Sichuan flavours and fresh local seafood includes the likes of grilled octopus with native tamarind, sea herbs and chilli, and Moreton Bay bugs with salted duck egg, through to big plates of shredded pork, dim sum and southern rock lobster or mud crab from the fish tank. 171 George Street

Phat Boy, Brisbane Quarter

On Brisbane’s must-do list, Phat Boy is a game-changing Thai restaurant in Brisbane’s CBD offering traditional Thai dishes along with unique interactive dining experiences.

Phat Boy’s menu celebrates everything great about Thai cuisine, with dishes put together using the best produce Brisbane has to offer.

Located on Level 2 of the Brisbane Quarter precinct, Phat Boy is a sibling for Phat Elephant and Chai Thai. The new eatery offers a relaxed dining setting for those wanting to escape the streets of the city for some much-needed sustenance. 300 George Street

ARC Dining and Wine Bar

Set on the edge of the Brisbane River with stunning views of Brisbane City, ARC Dining and Wine Bar features a sophisticated, modern concept inspired by art and culture.

With a wine list curated by award winning Sommelier Ian Trinkle that focuses on sustainability and organically-driven practices, this new food and wine bar offers not only a great drop, but one of the best views in Brisbane.

ARC’s dining venue is a mix of old and new, texture and colour. Mixing vintage black onyx marble, one-of-a-kind artworks and Le Courbusier wall lights, the interior design is super luxe. As for the food… With a focus on providing high end yet approachable dishes, Head Chef Alanna Sapwell strives to create light and fresh food you feel good about, while making a conscious effort to support ethically raised animals. 5 Boundary Street

Three Blue Ducks

The Three Blue Ducks has flown north to open its third venue at W Brisbane. The new addition by Chef and co-owner, Darren Robertson features a wood-fired oven, a rotisserie and charcoal pit and a cold seafood section showcasing Moreton Bay bugs, spanner crab and oysters.

The menu also features well-known dishes such as the spanner crab scramble with green mango, bean shoot salad, house-made sriracha and cashews and the corn fritters with guacamole, fermented cabbage, jalapeno, herb salad, labneh and poached eggs.

Robertson says that the philosophy behind Three Blue Ducks is the same across all the venues: the vibe is laidback and relaxed; the food is casual, tasty, unfussy. W Brisbane, Level 3/81 N Quay
