Only half of Americans intend to get vaccinated against COVID-19 when a vaccine becomes available, according to a new poll.

Survey reveals only half of Americans plan to get vaccinated against COVID-19

A survey conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research showed that if a coronavirus vaccine is created, 49 percent of respondents plan to get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, 20 percent say they will not get vaccinated, and 31 percent are not sure.

Among the Americans who said they will not get immunised, 70 percent of respondents said their reason was concern about side effects from the vaccine.

The survey was conducted with 1,056 American adults via online and telephone interviews.

It comes as America reaches the grim milestone of 100,000 deaths from COVID-19, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

The death toll is larger than the number of American casualties in every military conflict since the Korean War.

Experts believe the actual coronavirus death toll in the US is likely higher than the official figure.

Among the almost 1.7 million infections in the States, there have been more than 62,000 health care workers infected. At least 291 of those workers who have been on the frontlines have died.
