For most, a wedding is considered a day that is all about the couple, celebrating their union in front of family and friends. For this couple however, their wedding day was spent with 4000 Syrian refugees.

Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu, 24, and Esra Polat, 20, of Turkey decided to spend the money they had received for their wedding, on feeding thousands of displaced Syrians.

“We wanted to help our Syrian brothers,” the newlyweds shared in a statement through KYM. “Seeing the happiness in the eyes of the Syrian refugee children is just priceless. We started our journey to happiness with making others happy and that’s a great feeling.”

The couple, working with Turkish charity, Kimse Yok Mu, worked behind the food counter dressed in their wedding clothes, giving back to people who had lost so much.

The southern Turkish city of Kilis, situated on the Syrian border, currently houses thousands of refugees who are fleeing Syria’s civil war. Although Turkey has seen an influx of nearly two million refugees since the conflict began in 2011; a total of four million Syrians have also been displaced worldwide.

Based on the current rate of growth, UNHCR is predicting that the number of refugees fleeing Syria due to unrelenting civil war, will be raised to 4.27 million by the end of this year.
