This shelter gives its dogs cottages not cages.

We all know that shelter dogs can experience unshakable symptoms of long-term shelter living. Often shelters are left overcrowded and underfunded, resulting in dogs sharing cold cell-like structures that provide very little stimulation for the fragile pups.

One shelter is trying to change this by creating beautiful and homely residences for their beautiful pooches.

Already a dogs paradise, The Luvable Dog Rescue in Oregon is set on 55 acres of land with forests, meadows and kilometres of hiking trails for the dogs to walk on.

Now, the doggie rescue is upgrading its digs to give each and every pup its own space, made to look and feel like a real home.

The project gives the shelter staff an idea of how the dogs will act when they go to their forever home, as well as providing the pups with an elevated mood, a sense of comfort and something they can be proud of.

Executive Director of Luvable Dog Resuce, Liesl Wilhardt, dreamt up the concept after being inspired by her love of bull breeds.

She has so far, built a “pit bull palace” for the bigger pups and is planning a maternity ward for doggie mums to stay with their newborns.

We think this is a beautiful idea, don’t you?
