After opening up about her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS), Selma Blair is proudly sharing her recovery with fans via her Instagram account.

The witty actress has collaborated with photographer Brian Bowen Smith, who first shot her almost 20 years ago. The photographer, and close friend, shoot three portraits which Blair has shared over the last week with her followers on Instagram.

The feedback hasn’t all been positive, however powerful and bold, Blair said the portraits gave her a little bit of herself again. After being diagnosed in October 2018, Blair said the “profound” help she received from costume designer Allisa Swanson had inspired her to speak openly about her condition. She released the announcement via Instagram, candidly describing the troubles she is experiencing with the simplest of tasks, such as getting dressed.

Blair’s MS treatment involves undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT), which has long been used to treat blood and bone marrow cancers. The treatment is an attempt to reboot the immune system after a patient is given chemotherapy.

Now that Blair’s treatment for MS has finished, she is sharing the joy of getting back to the things she loves (including spending time with her horse, Mr. Nibbles).

Blair has been praised for continuing to be open and honest about her MS symptoms – her struggles and her bright spots, too.
