Angelina Jolie returns as the villainous Maleficent to battle it out with Michelle Pfeiffer in the newly released Maleficent: Mistress of Evil trailer.

Disney has released the first trailer for their highly-anticipated sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, a follow-up to the 2014 blockbuster Maleficent starring Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie.

The film picks up several years after the events of the first installment and will continue to delve into the complex relationship between the fallen fairy and Elle Fanning’s Princess Aurora.

Aurora is soon to be married and become queen, but her future mother-in-law Queen Ingrith (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) tries to cause a rift between them.

The trailer opens with a group of fairies flying around the huge castle, while Ingrith narrates, revealing she ‘remembers the story of an evil witch,’ as we get a look at Maleficent’s horns.

“And the princess she cursed to sleep forever,” Ingrith continues, as we get a new look at Fanning’s Aurora, about to prick her finger on the spindle.

Like always, details of the movie’s plot have been kept under tight wraps, but it looks like Maleficent is returning to her witchy ways. Meanwhile, Princess Aurora looks to be deep in love with a handsome suitor.

As is the case with the first movie, it’s also unclear who the true villain is, but the trailer definitely has people intrigued with it’s stunning visuals and a cover of the song, “Season of the Witch,” playing in the background.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will be in theaters October 18.
