Sarah Jessica Parker shares marriage advice after successful 25 years
Sarah Jessica Parker talked about how her marriage has survived for 25 years, despite its challenges.

After first meeting in late 1991 and going on their very first date in February 1992, Parker went on to marry Matthew Broderick in May 1997 at Angel Orensanz Synagogue on the Lower East Side in New York City.

The wedding set the tone for their unusual love story with Broderick’s minister sister Jane officiating in front of 100 surprised guests, none of whom knew they were gathered for a wedding. The bride wore a black ruffled Morgane Le Fay dress that she bought off the rack. Parker has since said the dress is the only thing she regrets about the day.

During her appearance at a Business Chicks event in Sydney, The Sex and the City star said “I’m incredibly fond of (Broderick) still, which is enormously helpful. His company is still really interesting to me, I want to know his thoughts, I still think of him first when I have a question.”

The actress also explained that their children had played a significant role in strengthening their marriage. Parker and Broderick share three children: James, 19, and twins via a surrogate Marion and Tabitha, 12, and lead a very low-key life in New York City.

“As complicated and chaotic as marriage and family can be, I think it’s helpful to see the way my children look at my husband. I think it’s a reminder to see that kind of purity of feeling because you get bogged down in the day to day of a marriage and it’s a lot,” Parker said.

“You’re kind of dealing with stuff every day that’s not interesting and it’s not romantic… It simply needs to be done. Often, I’ll see the look in their eyes when he enters the room or I’ll see the way a friend of his looks when he enters the room and I’m reminded — that’s that guy.”

We often think that relationship advice is about love and romance and telling you how to have the perfect relationship. But, who’s answering those really curly questions? More importantly, who’s willing to actually ask them.
