Santa is Getting Ready for Christmas
As Christmas gets closer, Santa has sent a message from the North Pole

Santa has taken time out of his busy schedule to send a Christmas message, all the way from his home in Lapland, Finland.

As the holiday nears, every day is busy for Santa’s team in Rovaniemi, which calls itself his official hometown, near the Arctic Circle.

Mail pours in daily, with as many as 32 000 letters being received each day. Last year, over 500 000 letters were received. It is the important duty of Santa’s helpers to sort out the letters from all the world’s children.

“Santa Claus is getting more and more popular, he received about half a million letters every year from all around the world, “ says Elina, who works as a postal elf this time of year. “We are busy here in Santa Claus’ main post office at the Arctic Circle to help him open all the letters and get all the wishes ready for Christmas.”

Thousands of visitors come to see the Rovaniemi Santa attraction each year ahead of Christmas, meeting the man himself, his reindeer and enjoying the magical scenery. With just a few hours of light at this time of year, they make the most of sleigh rides among the snow-covered trees during the day.

In his Christmas message, Santa reflects on the year that was, and reminds us all to look out for each other, “Another year is coming to its end and it has been a turbulent year with many big problems, but also many very good things,” he said. “Now as Christmas is coming close, reach out for those who need a helping hand, do it with compassion – that’s the real Christmas spirit.”

Well said Santa.
