SAG and Golden Globe nominations: How do they compare?
It’s been a big week for awards season, with both the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominees being announced.

This year’s SAG nominations causing a stir with a number of snubs.

We take a look at how the two film lists compare.

The Two Popes

The Golden Globes honoured actors Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins from Netflix film The Two Popes with nominations for their portrayals of Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI respectively, but no cast members were acknowledged by SAG.

Marriage Story

Three of the film’s actors received SAG nominations – Adam Driver for Male Actor in a Leading Role, Scarlett Johansson for Female Actor in a Leading Role, and Laura Dern for Female Actor in a Supporting Role. However, the film didn’t get nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Johansson managed to pick up a supporting actress SAG nomination for her role in Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, despite not receiving a Golden Globes nod for the film.

Knives Out

Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas from this crowd-pleasing whodunnit were both recognised by the Golden Globes, but not SAG. The film’s star-studded cast also didn’t receive a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Little Women

Saoirse Ronan was honoured with a Best Actress nomination for the Golden Globes, but that’s it for nominations for Little Women. The highly-anticipated adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s novel was directed by Greta Gerwig and features an all-star cast, but has failed to secure any further recognition at either awards.

Lead actor

The SAG Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category arguably had the most snubs. Robert De Niro missed out for The Irishman, despite Al Pacino and Joe Pesci being nominated for their supporting roles in the Scorsese gangster epic. Antonio Banderas and Eddie Murphy missing out for Pain and Glory and Dolemite Is My Name respectively also shocked film fanatics.

Musical and comedy actresses

All women nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a musical or comedy motion picture were snubbed by SAG.

Scarlett Johansson could pick up a Screen Actors Guild Award or a Golden Globe for her role in Marriage Story.
Scarlett Johansson could pick up two Screen Actors Guild Awards for her roles in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit.
