On Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace in honuor of the 50th anniversary of Prince Charles’s investiture as the Prince of Wales.
Prince Charles’s two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, and their wives, Kate and Meghan, as well as other dignetaries, were in attendance at the celebration. The Princess Royal, Prime Minister Theresa May and representatives from Prince Charles’s many Welsh patronages were among the guests.
The title of the Prince of Wales is usually given to the heir apparent, the sovereign’s eldest son. Prince Charles earned the title when he was nine years old in 1958, but he was formally invested with the title by his mother, the Queen, on July 1, 1969.
The event is a relatively rare gathering of all the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace.
It comes as it was announced that Duchess Meghan will join an International Women’s Day panel discussion with a group of female leaders including former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard. According to Kensington Palance, the event will showcase and celebrate the diverse community of young Canadians living in London and around the UK.
At the event in honour of Prince Charles, the Duchess of Sussex wore a metallic brocade shift dress with a white Amanda Wakeley coat.
While the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a light blue button front dress, reportedly by a private dressmaker.
The investiture regalia that Prince Charles wore the day the title was bestowed on him was also on display at the celebration.
