Queensland recorded eight new community cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with two clusters now in the state.
Six of the new cases are linked to existing infections and two are under investigation.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says officals now believe there are “two distinct clusters”, with the first cluster related to a doctor at the Princess Alexandra Hospital who treated a confirmed case.
The second cluster is linked to a nurse who worked at the same hospital in the COVID-19 ward.
Authorities are warning that more cases could emerge, with the outbreak being linked to the more contagious UK variant of the coronavirus.
The new cases come a day after the premier announced a three-day lockdown in Brisbane.
“The fact that we have these cases that are linked is good news,” Palaszczuk said.
“Do we expect to see more cases? Probably. Probably, we will see more.”
The premier said today’s figures prove that plunging Brisbane back into lockdown was “absolutely the right call”.
