The duo touched down in Lahore, for a busy day of cricket and visits to the country’s second-largest mosque, the Badshahi Mosque.
Happy Birthday!
The couple visited the SOS Children’s Village, an Orphanage in Lahore and attended the birthday party of one of the children. Kate, a known advocate for issues regarding motherhood, early childhood development, and children’s health, applauded the organisation’s work in her speech. “I’m aware that many of you have experienced extremely difficult times in your lives,” she said. “But it is inspiring to see how you have used your strength and positivity to help transform the lives of so many young children here.”
Deliver the Ball
Kate had her game face on as she and William arrived at the National Cricket Academy. She swapped her heels for a pair of plain plimsolls and tied her hair up in a ponytail. The couple took turns batting, showing off their skills, the Prince hit a six during the match.
Following in Diana’s Footsteps
Following in his late mother’s footsteps, the Duke and Duchess then visited the holy site of the Badshahi Mosque. Diana, Princess of Wales, visited the site in 199 and the Duke’s father, the Prince of Wales, went to the mosque with the Duchess of Cornwall on their royal tour in 2006.
The couple changed their outfits for the visit, with Kate wearing a green shalwar kameez by Maheen Khan and a matching headscarf, while William donned a light suit, and in respect, the couple removed their shoes to enter the Mosque. Kate had bare feet, while the Prince wore black socks.
After the Mosque, the couple visited the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, the same hospital attended by Princess Diana in 1996. Kate wore matching tiaras while having a special tea with seven-year-old Wafia Rehmani.
Rough Ride Home
At the end of the day, the couple flew back to Islamabad. However, their RAF Voyager twice tried to land in Islamabad – at Rawalpindi airbase and the main airport – before returning to Lahore, from where they had departed. The aircraft was on a 25-minute journey but stayed in the air for more than two hours due to the thunder and lightning.
