Plant Oils for Perfect Skin

By MiNDFOOD

Plant Oils for Perfect Skin
As the days get cooler, sometimes skin can start to feel dry and tight. The good news is that it doesn’t have to stay that way. There’s a simple solution that will quench your skin’s thirst and put some moisture right back where it belongs, and it starts with just a little bit of oil.

Plant oils are no new discovery. They have been used for centuries by skincare gods and goddesses (hello Cleopatra!) who have shouted their praises from the rooftops. But their healing properties are no myths; there’s a reason they’ve stood the test of time. We’ve chosen a handful of plant oils that we think your skin deserves to sample. You can thank us (and the gods) later.

Olive Oil

Used on the body for who knows how long, olive oil should be a staple when it comes to your beauty cabinet. Packed with anti-aging antioxidants and hydrating squalene, it’s a great solution for dry skin. Pop it in your meals, in your bath and straight onto your skin, this versatile oil is highly effective on scaly winter skin. One of the best ways to apply this ancient elixir is to rub it onto warm dewy skin after a bath or shower, once you’ve towel-dried yourself. The oil soaks into the skin and leaves you with a soft, supple finish.

Coconut oil

Naturally antibacterial and antifungal, coconut oil for skin is an excellent solution to hydrating those flaky pins. It penetrates hair better than other oils, and with it’s delicious tropical scent it will take you back to your Hawaii holiday of 2015. Bliss.

Avocado Oil

Rich in skin-nourishing potassium, vitamins D and E, magnesium, and linoleic acid, this oil is further proof that avocados should be up there with precious stones. Worth its weight in gold, the avocado just keeps on giving; its oil helps to support your skin’s moisture balance, preventing it from drying out, while helping to strengthen the dermis. Apply a little avocado oil to your skin post-shave and your skin will feel beyond amazing (outweighing the temptation to leave your legs unshaven for a few more winter days).

Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp seed oil is no less than revolutionary for your skin. It’s an incredibly beneficial skincare ingredient that can soothe inflammation, hydrate dry skin and even prevent acne. It has also been found to help heal skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and other rashes. The oil’s fatty acids are believed to affect immune responses in the body which helps to promote healing. This is also likely due to the oil’s perfect balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. We like the sound of perfect. To use this wonder-oil, massage liberally all over your skin.

Handy tip: Because pure plant oils are so full of goodness, your skin needs only a small amount. If you have an oily residue on your skin, you’re probably using too much; go easy on these natural elixirs. Another great way to use plant oils is with a little bit a sugar to create a moisturizing skin scrub. You’re welcome.
