‘Teetor Totter Wall’, a seesaw installation on the US-Mexico border, has been awarded the 2020 Beazley Design of the Year by London’s Design Musuem.
Installed by Ronald Rael and Virginia San Fratello at the Anapra zone in Ciudad Juarez, the interactive installation lets people from both countries seesaw together despite the massive wall dividing them.
It took 10 years to finish the project, the designer’s inspired to connect people in a new, inventive way.
“The wall became a literal fulcrum for U.S. – Mexico relations and children and adults were connected in meaningful ways on both sides with the recognition that the actions that take place on one side have a direct consequence on the other side,” shared Rael on Instagram.
The Design Museum’s chief executive Tim Marlow commended the Teeter Totter Wall as an “inventive and poignant reminder of how human beings can transcend the forces that seek to divide us.”
