Owl Café not a Hoot?

Owl Café not a Hoot?

Animal rights activists are up in arms over controversial new London café featuring live owls

Owl Café not a Hoot?

No grains were harmed in the making of London’s Cereal Café, however the new kid on London’s quirky café and bar block has raised hoots of disdain.

An owl-themed cocktail bar will offer punters two drinks and the chance to fraternize with a bevy of owls for a £20 entry fee.

The move has generated a petition and raised the ire of owl experts and falconers who say owls and cocktails don’t mix. Concerns abound for the welfare of the characteristically solitary birds’ welfare with fears they’ll find the bar noise distressing.

Thousands of protesters have signed the petition despite the owners of Annie’s Owl Bar insisting they’ve made sure the owls are safe, and that profits will benefit the charity The Barn Owl Centre.

The bar was inspired by an already existing owl café in Japan and the popularity of recent cat and dog cafes, which allow customers to spend time with the animals.

Is the trend towards animal cafes and bars a good idea?
