Our Detox Guide

Our Detox Guide
The body's ability to cleanse and renew itself is hindered by our everyday exposure to toxins.

How you feel is linked to your body’s ability to deal with toxins. Even given the best conditions, your body has plenty of work to do, digesting the fats, proteins, and carbohydrates of your diet. Add to that the impact of leading a stressful and/or sedentary life, ingesting food additives and breathing polluted air, and your body is taking is taking in more toxins than it can expel.

A toxin is any substance that interferes with the body’s normal functioning, including metabolic waste, viruses, bacteria, solvents, heavy metals and synthetic chemicals. Toxins cause disruption to all systems of the body, contributing to multiple diseases and affecting the way you look and feel. Symptoms of toxicity range from low energy levels to digestive problems.

The good news is, you can make small everyday changes that will dramatically improve your health and wellbeing by enhancing your body’s natural process of detoxification. Here are 4 easy ways you can give your body the ultimate spring clean.

Nutrition

To detox through your diet, you need to minimise the supply of toxins that are affecting your body. Alcohol, caffeine, salt, sugar, wheat, red meat, and fried, processed and pre-packaged foods are the key items to watch out for. The liver, being the primary detoxification organ, is forced to go into overdrive to deal with these toxic substances. Try to eat more lean protein, oily fish, wholegrains, nuts and seeds, legumes, vegetables and herbs.

Body Treatments

Regular body treatments eliminate toxins that are excreted through the skin. Dry body brushing, body scrubs, lymphatic drainage, infrared saunas, massages, body wraps and baths are all important treatments that will cleanse, rejuvenate and detox your skin.

Exercise

Sweating is the key element of eliminating toxins and chemicals from the body. Any form of exercise that increases the heart rate and body temperature will produce adequate sweat to detox the body, eliminate stress and keep illness at bay.

Hydration

While undergoing detoxification and after a treatment it’s important to drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins from your body. Avoid common side effects of headaches and irritability by drinking more than you usual fill of water. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon to cleanse your system.
