New songs to add to your Christmas playlist

With the festive season comes a bunch of new Christmas-themed songs hoping to find a permanent spot on our holiday playlists.

New songs to add to your Christmas playlist

Here are the original singles and albums making waves this year.

Singles

‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ by John Legend feat. Kelly Clarkson

John Legend has released a revamped, politically correct version of this Christmas classic, re-writing the lyrics with comedian Natasha Rothwell.

The original song causes controversy each Christmas, with many considering the words to the 1944 tune to be outdated and offensive in the era of #MeToo.

‘Christmas Tree Farm’ by Taylor Swift

Believed to have been written and recorded in less than a week, this last-minute Christmas release pays homage to Swift’s childhood growing up on a Christmas tree farm.

The accompanying music video features never-before-seen footage of the pop star’s upbringing.

‘Cosy Little Christmas’ by Katy Perry

Released exclusively on Amazon Music in 2018, this catchy tune is now available on all music platforms this year.

The song’s lyrics and music video are attracting attention due to their flirty content.

‘Like It’s Christmas’ by Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers are riding the wave of their 2019 comeback and have released a single about a romance that makes “every day feel like it’s Christmas”.

Albums:

‘The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show’ soundtrack by Kacey Musgraves

This year Grammy-winning country singer Kacey Musgraves hosted an Amazon Christmas special, performing duets with fellow musicians such as Leon Bridges, Camila Cabello, Troye Sivan, and Lana Del Rey.

‘The Christmas Present’ by Robbie Williams

It’s the British singer’s first studio album since 2016, and it managed to top the Australian and British pop charts in its second week of release.

‘Christmas: A Season of Love’ by Idina Menzel

Broadway heavyweight Idina Menzel has also released a star-studded album featuring duets with the likes of Billy Porter, Ariana Grande, and Josh Gad.

‘Christmas in the City’ by Lea Michele

Glee fans and musical theatre enthusiasts will be rejoicing with the release of Lea Michele’s holiday album ‘Christmas in the City’, featuring duets with Broadway stars Darren Criss and Jonathan Groff.
