My Car, My Life

My Car, My Life

MiNDFOOD and Mazda2 asked readers what their car really means to them and what it is they cherish in a car. The results show that when it comes to choosing a vehicle, decisions are made with both the head and the heart.

Style, safety, performance and innovation are key considerations when purchasing a car but our recent survey shows it’s how these features relate to our lifestyle that is the real driver for our decision-making process. More than 57 per cent of survey respondents agree their car is a means to serve their lifestyle needs including family outings, sports and hobbies.

Safety

According to our recent survey, fewer than 2 per cent of respondents were unwilling to compromise on safety. In fact, many of our concerns relate to safety when considering a new car. For example, underlying the requirement for a reversing camera is the need for safety. “I have two kids and I could not bear the thought of hitting a child accidently while reversing,” says one survey respondent.  Likewise, Mazda2’s rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, smart city break support and dynamic stablity control are all designed to help protect your tribe in real life, not just on paper.

Innovation

While 60 per cent of survey respondents say technology is making us worse drivers, Mazda2 innovation is not about making lazy drivers, but better ones. Mazda is committed to delivering driving experiences that are pure jinba ittai (Japanese for ‘horse and rider as one body’). Mazda’s belief is that a car should feel like an extension of one’s being, and when car and driver are in perfect harmony, driving is fun. Mazda uses technology to improve the driving experience, including ensuring the shift lever is in the ultimate position as well as the development of a new-generation, direct-injection gasoline engine that is highly efficient, reducing fuel consumption by 20 per cent. Mazda’s technology is all geared to improve your driving experience without the unnecessary gadgets.

Sustainability

As environmental concerns become a more prominent and pressing issue, sustainable development in the car industry is an important concern, one that Mazda takes seriously – including in its development of electric vehicles. While the mainstream use of electric vehicles is still some years away, Mazda’s long-term vision for technology development, ‘Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030’, features many impressive innovations including Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-X, which combines the advantages of gasoline and diesel engines. It represents a step forward in making the ultimate combustion engine, as well as Mazda’s goal to reduce ‘well-to-wheel’ CO2 emissions to 50 per cent of 2010 levels by 2030, with a view to achieving a 90 per cent cut by 2050. Mazda is dedicated to making the combustion engine as efficient as possible to minimise emissions.
