Meghan Markle taking over a duty of the Queen

The Queen is taking a step back from her role in the Queen’s Young Leaders programme, but she’s leaving it in the very capable hands of Meghan Markle and her new husband, Prince Harry.

Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex “will welcome those in the Queen’s Young Leaders programme to Buckingham Palace this summer, continuing the role started by the Queen during her lifetime of service to the Commonwealth nations,” according to The Express.

Prince Harry became the patron of the programme in 2018, which sees “exceptional” young people receive honours for the work they do in their respective Commonwealth nations.

Meghan Markle – whose relationship with the Queen is going from strength to strength – will take over the role from the Queen, which is said to be a job that has been close to her heart since it started five years ago, according to The Express.

All this while Prince Harry embarked on his first official bit of business without his new wife, as he visited Lesotho in southern Africa over the weekend. “The 33-year-old royal traveled on behalf of Sentebale – a charity he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho – to celebrate the opening of a community hall that the foundation donated to the Phelisanong Children Centre,” US Weekly reports.

The centre shared images of the exciting day with the Prince on Saturday, June 23, in a Facebook album of photos titled, “Opening day for the community hall.” Harry was all smiles in the photos as he joked around with children at the unveiling.
