Anyone aged in their 80s might seem like an unlikely Instagram star.

But octogenarian husband-and-wife team Chang Wan-ji and Hsu Sho-er are taking the social media platform by storm.

While running their laundry service in a small town near the city of Taichung, the Taiwanese couple have become fashion sensations.

Chang, 83, and Hsu, 84, have acquired many a forgotten garment over the decades that they have run their store.

With the business struggling and the pair battling boredom as a result, their grandson Reef Chang suggested they start modelling the clothes that had been left behind.

They show off their fabulous outfits through their Instagram account @wantshowasyoung, which is managed by Reef.

The couple now has more than 600,000 followers, but Chang admits when they first started the account he wasn’t convinced it would be a success.

“I don’t know if my reaction was positive at first,” he told CNN, saying that his initial response was: “Will anybody want to look at this?”

“I didn’t think people would like it,” he said.

Even so, Chang loved modelling the abandoned clothes, telling AFP it makes him feel “30 years younger”.

“Many people are telling me, ‘You are famous now and you look younger’,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hsu said she likes to “put on pretty clothes and go out and have some fun”.

“I am old in age but my heart is not ageing,” she said.

Reef told AFP the couple want to use their large social media following to encourage “environmental fashion”.

“Instead of following fast fashion and keep buying new clothes, we hope people can see that old and second-hand clothes can be fashionable if you arrange and combine them in new ways,” Reef said.

“This would cause less damage to the earth and the environment.”
