‘Maudie’: the True Story of Canadian Folk Artist Maud Lewis
Don't miss this moving romantic drama.

Based on a true story, Maudie is a beautiful portrait of reclusive Canadian folk artist, Maud Lewis (Sally Hawkins). The film follows the success story of Maud’s art and her unlikely romance with the gruff and independent Everett Lewis  (Ethan Hawke) in a small village in Nova Scotia.

Needing a live-in housekeeper, Lewis reluctantly hires Maud, a hunched woman with crippled hands. Opinionated, talkative and absent-minded, Maud is not what Lewis bargained for. Despite his frustration, however, he finds himself developing unwanted feelings for her. As Maud becomes a recognised folk artist, Lewis grows insecure and must decide whether to act on his feelings or shut down entirely.

An intimate and endearing film, Maudie will charm viewers with its tale of, as director Aisling Walsh describes it, “two souls existing on the fringes of society who find one another and change each other in the course of their lives together.”

“The film glows with the kind of sweetness last seen in John Crowley’s Brooklyn .  All it asks of you is an open heart.” – Time Out New York

“A powerful, Oscar-worthy performance  by Sally Hawkins.” – The Wrap

“Richly layered, deeply felt.  Ethan Hawke as we’ve rarely seen him.” – New York Observer
