Victoria’s health minister Jenny Mikakos announced the news on Twitter as she also revealed a woman in her 80s had died in the state.
“Yesterday a man in his 50s died in hospital and a woman in her 80s died at home,” she said.
“My thoughts are with their families.”

The previous youngest victim was a 61-year-old man from Sydney who died over the weekend.
Since the death of the two Victorians was announced, the death toll from the virus has risen to 40 in Australia.
WA health minister Roger Cook said a man in his 80s has died at Royal Perth Hospital.
The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Australia is approaching 6000.
