Pay it forward initiatives are thankfully becoming more and more popular throughout the world.
One such initiative, called Eat My Lunch, is making headlines for all the right reasons.
New Zealand natives, Lisa King and Iaan Buchanan, with the help of top chef Michael Meredith, began the initiative after they realised that, whilst we were concerned about the welfare of children overseas, we were missing out on the troublesome statistics in our own backyard.
A worrying 1 in 4 children in New Zealand go to school without lunch everyday.
“We started Eat My Lunch to make it easy for Kiwis to help other Kiwis. With the help of award-winning chef Michael Meredith, we hope to alleviate a nationwide issue by creating a change through something as routine as eating lunch.” says a statement on their website.
The initiative works by a ‘subscriber’ ordering a healthy fresh meal to be delivered to their door, then, with every subscription, a child in a New Zealand school receives a free lunch.
This formula was allowing the pay-it-forward mentality of conscious consumerism to shine – but what if you just wanted to donate lunches, instead of receive them? That is how ‘Give Two’ came about.
‘Give Two’ offers willing donators the opportunity to gift two lunches to deserving children over an online payment service.
When Lorde (Ella Yelich-O’Connor) was approached by the company to assist them with their amazing venture, she jumped at the chance – becoming their first ever ‘Give Two’ Subscriber.
Now she has announced that she will sponsor Te Papapa School in Onehunga for all the lunches they need.
For just $10 anyone can give two children in need a fresh and healthy lunch – delivered to their school.
