Kristen Scott Thomas’ new film tells the untold story of military wives
Retelling the inspirational, true story of the first military wives choir, Military Wives is an inspirational story of friendship, love and support on the home front.

BAFTA award-winning actress Kristen Scott Thomas shares the screen with Catasrophe‘s Sharon Horgan, shining a light on the often untold life of a military wife.

Separated from loved ones, these wives suffer in silence, dreading the day they get a fateful knock on the door.

Scott Thomas plays Kate, a strong officer’s wife who bears were struggles with grace. After finding solace in song, she persuades the other women on the military base to form a choir. Soon, friendships flourish and the women find courage in the cathartic power of singing together.

Joined by the real-life military wives at the London premiere, Scott Thomas spoke about her love for the film and the joy and support that comes out of creating music together.

“[Choirs] give you this feeling of belonging to something and having a common goal,” she said. “To do something all together as a group is amazingly satisfying.”

Horgan also spoke about the importance of sharing these women’s stories. “It’s a story I knew nothing about, but as soon as we started working on it and learning more about it, it felt like a really important story to tell.” she told interviewers.

Today, there are over 2,000 women involved in 74 Military Wives Choirs across the UK and abroad. They have performed for the Queen at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s house and at the Diamond Jubilee.

Military Wives opens in cinemas across Australia on 12 March.
