Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge visited Ronald McDonald House, opening a new residence for sick children and their families.

The Duchess brought her usual joy and warmth to the opening of the newest Ronald McDonald House Evelina London, greeting families and speaking with children who will benefit from the latest opening.

The Duchess was greeted by staff and volunteers as well as a charming Isabelle Randall, whose six-year-old brother, is being treated at hospital.

Kate was introduced to children and families who are currently using the facilities offered by Ronald McDonald House, including Mia Mifsud, an eight-month-old who suffered double renal failure. Unfortunately the child needs dialysis every night, and her family are thankful that they are all able to reside close by to the hospital in these harrowing times.

The Duchess was won over by newborn Jack, who was born with half a heart and has survived multiple operations. His parents are also incredibly grateful for the opportunities afforded to them by the facilities at Evelina London.

The new facility contains 59 rooms where families are able to stay free of charge as long as their child is in hospital. The building is equipped with playrooms, kitchens, laundry facilities and communal lounges and offers much needed support and guidance for families that are struggling.

The house is expected to accomodate approximately 975 families each year.
