Hollywood stars Jennifer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon have shared the secret to their youthfulness, and no, you can't buy it in a jar.

The actresses, who star in the new Apple TV+ series, The Morning Show, take a disciplined approach to their health – fasting.

Anniston, 50, and Witherspoon, 43, stick to a regime of 16-hour fasts, daily green juices and gruelling workouts six days a week. The duo told Radio Times they allow themselves a ‘cheat day’ once a week. But cheating for these two doesn’t mean pizza and a glass of wine on a Friday night. For Anniston cheating means celery juice!

‘I do intermittent fasting, so no food in the morning,’ former Friends star Anniston, who recently joined Instagram, said. ‘I noticed a big difference in going without solid food for 16 hours.’

Witherspoon added: ‘I just have a green juice and a coffee in the morning. Jen knows so much about health and fitness that I always defer to her. She’s great at wellbeing advice.’

Anniston is known for changing up her routines, from 5 small meals a day to the Aitken’s Diet, a low-carbohydrate, high-protein regime commonly used for fast weight-loss. However, she seems to have stuck with intermittent fasting and is enjoying the results. The actress said she aims for five workouts every week, and even when she’s not fasting starts the day with a celery juice, followed by meditation and a workout.

Various versions of the intermittent fasting diet appear to have weight loss benefits, however, a new study sheds some light on just why.

Witherspoon also works out 6 times a week, although unlike Anniston who wakes at 9 am, Witherspoon is up at 5:30 am with seven-year-old Tennessee. She then has a workout at 7.30 am, adding: ‘I probably do that six days a week.’

The 16:8 diet advocates fasting for 16 hours and eating freely for the remaining eight hours, typically between 10 am and 6 pm. The results? Improved blood sugar control, increased brain function and higher life expectancy.

However, the jury is still out on whether intermittent fasting works. But if you want to try it, here’s the experts’ advice.

We recently sat down with Anniston to discuss the series, for which she and Witherspoon are also co-producers, about the rivalry and sexual harassment on a TV news programme.
