Jacinda Ardern Makes Forbes List
New Zealand's Prime Minister has been named as one of the most powerful women in the world.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has made it onto Forbes’ magazines Most Powerful Female Political Leaders of 2017 list. Ardern placed 13th, just five places below Queen Elizabeth II.

Ardern, who was only sworn in as prime minister last week, also placed ahead of Hillary Clinton and Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg, who sit at 20 and 17 respectively. In describing Ardern, Forbes said “Jacinda Ardern, 37, is the world’s youngest female leader. She surged to power in New Zealand on a wave of voter excitement dubbed ‘Jacindamania’.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel topped the Most Powerful Female Political Leaders list, followed by British Prime Minister Theresa May and Taiwan President Tsa Ing-Wen. Ivanka Trump was also named in the top 10.

On Forbes’ broader list of The World’s Most 100 Powerful Women of 2017, Ardern was named 38th coming in before Beyoncé Knowles at 50, Hillary Clinton at 65 and J.K. Rowling at 88. Forbes said Ardern “promises an empathetic government, with ambitious plans to tackle climate change and eradicate child poverty.”
