Often touted one of the most beautiful countries in the world Switzerland should be on every traveller’s bucket list. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll through the forest in Entlebuch or a sled ride in Val Avers, there are ample ways to explore Switzerland.
MOUNTAIN HUTS
Swiss alpine huts have been used as summer residences by generations of cheesemakers and shepherds. Recently, tourists have been able to stay in these traditional huts and experience their breathtaking views. While some have been luxuriously refurbished, most remain in their original form without mod cons. This is how you truly detach yourself from modern life and reconnect with the wild.
WALK IT OUT
The best way to enjoy the Swiss scenery is on foot. Nature is proven to improve mental health, and a hike through the Swiss wilderness will leave you feeling inspired and energised. Meander along the picturesque lake in the car-free fishing village of Gandria or go for a vigorous tramp around Klosters. Not to be missed is an early morning hike up Präzer Höhi mountain. Equipped with a headlamp, you are guided to the 2120m summit where you can savour the stunning sunrise.
HEAD RUSH
Looking for an adrenaline burst? Try paragliding from Niederbauen-Chulm mountain, or canyoning through the Viamala Gorge where you’ll leap off waterfalls as you float down the river. With some of the best snow in Europe, why not venture off the beaten track with a small group of skiers in the region of Graubünden? There are plenty of guided activities and experiences for the adventurous traveller in Switzerland.
WILDLIFE WATCHING
Switzerland Tourism has compiled a guide to more than 100 daytrips (ranging from one to seven hours) with professional guides that allow you to get up close and personal with local wildlife. Everything from ibexes, chamois and vultures to beavers and stags abound in the forests and mountains of Switzerland.
