How to be a conscious consumer

How to reduce your plastic use
Whether you’re moving towards veganism, starting your own compost bin or drinking coffee out of a reusable cup, nowadays, there are lots of ways to reduce your impact and live low-waste. Read our top tips for being a conscious consumer.

Shop second-hand

The fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors to carbon emissions. But cutting down your impact doesn’t have to mean compromising your style.

Buying second hand and ‘pre-loved’ is a fantastic way to reduce your carbon footprint.

With the popularity of second-hand shopping nowadays, there are lots of options to choose from – be it your local op-shop, a second-hand designer store, or you can rent from someone else’s wardrobe.

BYO container

The waste from our everyday lunches and takeaways adds up quickly. Just like bringing a reusable cup to your cafe, start making a habit of bringing a container for your food.

Many cafes and restaurants offer discounts on reusable containers so it’s a win-win!

Buy bulk

Buying bulk is a smart way to eliminate unnecessary food packaging whilst saving money. From nuts, to flours, to pasta, you can find lots of staple foods at local Bin Inns and bulk food shops.

Cut down on bathroom plastics

Shampoo bottles, body wash, toothbrushes – bathrooms are a big contributor when it comes to plastic waste.

The great thing is that there are lots of companies now providing low-waste bathroom products. Swap out the body wash for a soap bar, or your plastic toothbrush for a bamboo one.

You can even find shampoo and conditioner bars these days.
