It’s all about balance
The star doesn’t stick to a strict diet – in fact, in a Vanity Fair interview, Lawrence admitted that Red Sparrow was the first film she actually dieted for. “I’ve always wondered what it would take to get me to really diet, to be really hungry, because I’ve never done it for a movie. For Hunger Games, they told me to lose weight, and then I discovered Jack in the Box. Red Sparrow was the first time that I was really hungry, and disciplined,” she said. “I can’t be in character as an ex-ballerina and not feel like an ex-ballerina.” The star maintained a low-carb diet for the film.
Adequate sleep is important
Lawrence’s former trainer Dalton Wong revealed one of his top tips to the actress was to get enough sleep. “I’ve always told her that when you’re travelling and you arrive somewhere and you’re really fatigued, have a power nap,” he told The Daily Mail. “Relax. Let your body recharge. Try not to burn the candle at both ends.”
Keep it varied
When working, Lawrence mixes things up with a range of activities. The star usually begins with a run, before doing resistance training, squats and weightlifting. Often she will do yoga or pilates as well.
Enjoyment is key
For Lawrence, it’s about having a good relationship with food. “Dalton taught me how to eat, move and live a delicious but healthy life,” she wrote in a preface to one of the trainer’s books. Dalton advised the star to limit her portion size rather than steer clear of specific foods, allowing her to enjoy alcohol, chocolate and other foods in moderation. “When I’m in London I love to train in [Dalton’s] gym, then afterwards we go out for burgers and fries with his family. It’s all about balance,” Lawrence says.
Hydration, hydration
Last but certainly not least is the importance of staying hydrated. Hydration is good for the mind and body, and can even help you lose calories. “You don’t have to slam back water all the time, but you have to sip water throughout the day,” Dalton advises.
