Here are the celebrities helping the Australian bushfires
As Australia continues to be engulfed by a series of raging bushfires that have left death and destruction in their wake, celebrities and sports stars across the globe have pledged donations to help those who have lost everything in what has been the worst wildfires that Australia has seen in decades.

Comedian and author Celeste Barber started a fundraising page on Facebook after sharing a video of her mother-in-law Joy Robin at the Eden Wharf after they were told to evacuate. Since starting the fundraiser on January 3rd, almost $50million has been raised to support the NSW Rural Fire Service & Brigades Donations Fund, alongside the Red Cross and families of those killed in the fire.

Joining Celeste Barber in her bid to raise money for those most affected by the fires are a wealth of sports stars, celebrities and entrepreneurs, many of whom have been praised for both their generosity and for using their influence as a platform for hope in the midst of suffering and heartache.

Taking to Twitter, US singer Pink pledged a $500,000 donation to the local fire services, writing: ‘I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires. I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines. My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz.’

Meanwhile, Justine Hemnes, who owns the Sydney based bar and restaurant group Merrivale, has donated $500,000 to help to the NSW Rural Fire Service to help give our heroic firefighters the resources they need to continue their work through this long and devastating summer.

Selena Gomez also harnessed her social media following of almost 60 million to encourage others to donate, Tweeting: ‘Absolutely devastated by the fires in Australia. Praying for everyone affected and all of the first responders. I’m making a donation and would love if you would consider doing the same if you can.’

Sports star Ash Barty has promised to donate any prize money she earns from next week’s Brisbane International to the Red Cross – which could mean a pledge of $382k if she wins the tournament’s final.

The Minogue Family have also been vocal about their supported of those affected by the fires, with Kylie posting a sombre picture on Instagram, stating that ‘As a family, we’ve donated $500,000 towards the immediate firefighting efforts and the ongoing support which will be required.’

More recently, Chris Hemsworth, of Thor fame, has pledged a staggering $1 million to assist with the bushfire recovery. He posted a heartfelt video on Instagram where he wrote, “Every penny counts so whatever you can muster up is greatly appreciated. In my bio I’ve added links to support the fire fighters, organisations and charities who are working flat out to provide support and relief during this devastating and challenging time,”

Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban and James Packer have also added their names to the growing list of celebrities making generous donations to help support the firefighters, wildlife and those who have fallen victim to the devastating aftermath of the wildfires.
