No Tan Jan

No Tan Jan
For some, summer just wouldn’t be the same with out a sun-kissed tan. But one organisation is asking us to “fake it don't bake it” this January.

The Warwick Foundation, an Australian run non-profit organisation, is urging all young adults aged 18-40, to take care of their skin and protect themselves from becoming one of the 10 million people, worldwide who are diagnosed with cancer every year.

In fact, one young adult is diagnosed with cancer every hour in Australia – with one death every five hours – and according to the foundation; melanoma is the most common type of cancer prevalent in young people.

Sadly, they argue, this type of cancer is preventable, which is why they are asking for your help to support their “No Tan Jan” campaign.

Though we are all familiar with the motto “slip, slop, slap” when having fun in the sun, many Aussies still seek out to get a tan during the summer months. Some choose to bake for hours on sandy shores or at their local pools, while others still head to the solarium.

But you can still achieve the look of a glowing tan without causing irreparable damage to your skin, and aside from the obvious health issues, the end result may be better than a real tan, argues No Tan Jan ambassador and well known actress Margot Robbie.

“There is no painful burnt stage where you look like a tomato and there are no tan lines or patchy spots from peeling! Faking it is quick, easy, painless and gives you a nice even tan,” the former Neighbours starlet says.

Comedian Tom Gleeson couldn’t agree more – especially about forgoing the often-unsightly tan lines. The redhead, fair-skinned star says his favourite No Tan Jan item is the Cinema.

“When it is 35 degrees outside, the best way to escape the heat is to see a midday session of a movie. You miss the hottest part of the day and if the movie is good enough, you’ll forget that it is even summer,” Gleeson points out.

“So register for No Tan Jan today and give up baking!”

During the month of January, salon and companies offering spray tan products and services will be joining the fight against sun baking, by donating proceeds to the No Tan Jan cause. You can find out where at thewarwickfoundation.org.au/notanjan and spread the word through social media.
