A dreamlike garden has opened up at Hamilton Gardens. Part of the Fantasy Gardens collection, the Surrealist Garden lets visitors step into a weird and magical world, reminiscent of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
Everything in the garden is fives times larger in scale, featuring a giant wheelbarrow, curved lawns and even a dozen white noses instead of roses.
Dominating the garden stand the “trons”. Originally inspired by the paintings of artist David Inshaw, the biomorphic shapes are covered in creeping vines that move in strange ways.
“They’re intended to look slightly sinister! It’s our twist on the tradition of carving topiary into strange surrealist shapes,” says Hamilton Gardens Director Dr Peter Sergel. ”
The garden was opened to the public on 3 February.
