Hollywood actor George Clooney has joked he found it "a little irritating" that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal baby was born on his birthday.

Royal baby, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the first-born son of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shares his birthday with another famous face – George Clooney.

Baby Archie was born on the Hollywood star’s 58th birthday, and the dad-of-two and his lawyer wife Amal is worried the new arrival is going to steal his limelight.

The Hollywood couple are close to Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan and were guests at the royal wedding in Windsor last May.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Clooney said: “Well, it was a little irritating because that kid really is stealing my thunder! Come on man, that was my day!”

The Catch-2 star went on to say, “I was sharing it already with Orson Welles and Sigmund Freud.”

He did, however, offer his best wishes to the baby boy and his parents; “I am very happy. They’re a lovely couple so it’s exciting,” Clooney said.

While there have been roumors that Clooney will be the baby’s godfather, he quickly shot these down, joking that he can barely handle being a father to his 23-month-old twins Ella and Alexander.

“I’m a father of twins and I can barely do that … I’m not going to be the godfather – I can promise you that,” he said an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Support for Duchess Meghan

Clooney is hoping the media will be gentler to Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, now that she has given.

“I think people should be a little kinder. She’s a young woman who just had a baby, you know?” Clooney said following the birth of royal baby Archie.

Clooney has been outspoken in his defense of the Duchess, a former American actress, who has been the subject of gossip in some publications.

George denied he would be godfather to baby Archie, joking that he can barely handle being a father to his 23-month-old twins Ella and Alexander.
