They are people showing COVID-19 symptoms linked to the four cases confirmed outside of quarantine and managed isolation.
The government confirmed four new cases of COVID-19 in the community on Tuesday evening.
All four cases are from the same family in South Auckland, but the source of their infections is unknown.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said all of the probable cases are awaiting test results and are in isolation.
Bloomfield also announced another case in managed isolation on Wednesday, bringing New Zealand’s active cases to 22.
Two of the confirmed community cases travelled to Rotorua while showing virus symptoms and visited tourism spots.
Bloomfield said officials are confident the trip did not result in any close contacts in Rotorua.
He identified three locations that the family members visited: they stayed at the Waiora Lakeside Hotel, visited the Skyline Gondola Luge as well as the Rotorua Heritage Farm and 3D Trick Art Gallery.
Bloomfield said anyone in those locations should be aware of COVID symptoms.
The director-general instructed any employees, family members of employees, and visitors to two businesses linked to the confirmed community cases to stay home and isolate – Americold in Mt Wellington, and Finance Now on Dominion Road.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that businesses and services at Level 3 will be required to display the QR code for the Covid Tracer app, and they will have one week to comply.
