Everything you need to know about Lady Gaga’s Chromatica album

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga's highly-anticipated new album, Chromatica, has just dropped, marking the sixth studio album from the pop queen.

Chromatica sees Gaga’s return to her “absolute love for electronic music”. Including collabs and features from some of music’s biggest names, include Elton John, Ariana Grande and K-pop sensation Blackpink.

In the lead up to the album, Gaga released her first single “Stupid Love” in late February and her other single, “Rain on Me” sees her first collaboration with Ariana Grande.

The space-like futuristic feel and album title was inspired by a place in her mind, where sounds a colours mix, says Gaga. “I live on Chromatica, that is where I live. I went into my frame. I found Earth, I deleted it. Earth is canceled. I live on Chromatica.”

Speaking to Zane Lowe in a recent interview, Gaga said the album is a celebration of her dance and pop roots.

“We are definitely dancing… I put all my heart, all my pain, all my messages from the other realm that I hear of…what they tell me to tell the world and I put it into music that I believe to be so fun and you know, energetically really pure. I want people to dance and feel happy.”

In the same interview, Gaga also opened up about how the idea of inclusivity played a big role in the making of the album.

“We’re talking about inclusivity and life and also a lot of what we see around us…. Yeah, it’s inclusivity but it’s really a way of thinking,’ you know, it’s not just, ‘Oh, Chromatica, we’re being inclusive with all the colors, all the people,’ and when I say, ‘All the colors, all the people’ I mean way more than we could possibly fathom.”

The album is released in three parts and opens with a string arrangement that according to Gaga, sets “the stage for a more cinematic experience.”
