British actress Emily Blunt has spoken out about her stutter saying she still battles with the speech impediment today.

Blunt, in an interview with Howard Stern on his Sirius XM radio show about her new movie Sicario, said she had the issue as a child but it has come back to haunt her in her adult life.

“When I’m on the phone, it comes back, because I think it’s that pressure to communicate only with your voice,” Blunt said.

“Anytime I feel under pressure, and actually when I was pregnant it came back really badly. My diaphragm was so constricted. There wasn’t any space in there. I think I need to be really relaxed and calm to speak freely.”

Blunt said acting had helped her get past the impediment. As a child a teacher encouraged Blunt to try out for her school’s play so she could gain confidence in her speaking voice.

Blunt is one of a number of famous actors who had stutters as children, including Bruce Willis and Ed Sheeran.
