‘Mary Poppins Returns’ first reactions are in, with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Disney sequel receiving high praise.
The world premiere of Mary Poppins Returns – staring MiNDFOOD cover Emily Blunt – took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles last night and the first reactions are overwhelmingly positive.
Mary Poppins Returns has been showered with love on social media following the movie’s premiere last night, and while there were some critics for whom the spoonful of sugar wasn’t quite sweet enough, everyone agrees that Emily Blunt is wonderful in the title role.
Blunt takes on the role famously played by Julie Andrews 54 years ago, with the famous nanny returning to the Banks children 25 years later after a family tragedy.
The Disinsider reviewed the film saying, “Mary Poppins Returns is full of beautiful visuals, fantastic acting and musical sequences that will blow you away. Emily Blunt will get a nomination for Best Actress and has a solid shot at winning. Fans of the first film will be pleased!”
Meanwile, Rotten Tomatoes says, “Not only does she [Blunt] do the iconic character justice, but she’s looking to follow original Mary Poppins star Julie Andrews to Oscar recognition (but can she win, too?). Overall, the long-awaited sequel may not work for absolutely everybody, but in addition to awards favour, it’s sure to be a huge hit with many.”
