Five Things You Didn’t Know About Elisabeth Moss
As season two of The Handmaid's Tale kicks off, we look at lead actress Elisabeth Moss. Here are five things you may not know about this influential star.

The second season of The Handmaid’s Tale started this week, and once again Elisabeth Moss is the talk of the town. The 35-year-old actress is known for playing strong female roles, first drawing attention as Peggy Olson in Mad Men, before garnering critical acclaim as Robin Griffin in Top of the Lake and Offred in The Handmaid’s Tale. Here are five things you may not know about this celebrated star.

She doesn’t take herself too seriously

Yeah, I like a challenge,” Moss told us when we interviewed her for the October 2017 issue of MiNDFOOD. “But I don’t think I’m a complicated person. I don’t take myself very seriously. I like to have fun.” A quick peek at the star’s Instagram account confirms this statement.

She’s extremely modest

Despite having won the Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Emmy awards for her role as Offred in The Handmaid’s Tale, Moss doesn’t have an ego of any kind. “I feel like any actress can speak to the fact that when you get on something that is successful, it opens doors so that people consider you for a part,” she says. “And if they think you do a good job, perhaps you get more things offered and have to audition less sometimes. But I don’t mind the auditioning process. I like to make sure I can do it too. [Success] is about being able to get more work and I just want to keep acting. It’s my first love.”

She’s a big Nicole Kidman fan

When we spoke to Moss last year, she revealed she saw Nicole Kidman and completely fan-girled over her. “I definitely had this moment where I was looking at her and thinking, ‘Oh. My. God. It’s Nicole Kidman! I’m totally working with Nicole Kidman!’ I’m a bit of a fan girl about it, but of course, I just had to get over it”, she said.

She loves pets

Moss has a ginger cat named Ethel who regularly features on her Instagram account. The star even dressed her cat up as a Handmaid for fun (pictured below).

She’s able to step away from the dark roles she plays

While many actors talk of the struggle to separate complicated characters and their real life while filming a particular show of film, Moss says she doesn’t have any trouble. “I’m very good at shaking the character off. As soon as I’m done with a scene, I’m done. I’m like, ‘Where’s my coffee?’ Then I go home, have a shower – there’s usually a cocktail involved – [but] not in the shower. Well, sometimes in the shower. Then I make some food or order in”, she told MiNDFOOD.
