Elementary school kids get ‘Happy’ on World Happiness Day
See how one adorable elementary school take on Pharrell's "Happy" for International Day of Happiness.

What do Pharrell, the United Nations, Ellen and a bunch of elementary school kids all have in common? They’re all on board for today’s International Day of Happiness pledge.

The official global day, which hopes to promote happiness across the globe, has never been endorsed more. From Pharrell’s euphoric hit ‘Happy’ (which the UN has adopted as the official soundtrack to this year’s event), to Ellen’s ‘I am Happy’ hoodie which she flaunted backstage at the Oscars – the message is clear: happiness is the new black.

In fact, according to a recent survey by the charity Action for Happiness, 87% of people would choose being happy over money, breathing new life into the old adage ‘money doesn’t buy you happiness.’

“The UN Day of Happiness is about the fact that happiness really matters,” said Action for Happiness director Mark Williamson. “It matters for us and our loved ones – and it matters for our countries and leaders too. All around the world, people are recognising that real progress is about more than just growing the economy – it’s about increasing human happiness and wellbeing”.

According to the UN, “the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal”, and international and regional organisations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organisations and individuals, need to observe the International Day of Happiness through education and public awareness-raising activities.

This year, we’re asking you to join Pharrell and others around the world to celebrate happiness by sharing a photo or video of yourself singing, dancing, and engaging in general happy activities and tagging it #happyday over at 24hoursofhappiness.com.

And we’d also love to see them, so tag us at #mindfoodgethappy and share with us over at our Facebook or Twitter.
