Edible rings the newest solution to ocean pollution
Has this company just invented the answer to the ongoing issue of ocean pollution and endangerment to marine life?

According to Saltwater Brewery, the company behind this latest anti-pollution initiative, as many as 1 million sea birds and 100,000 marine animals, including sea turtles, die every year from being trapped in bottle rings.

Whilst many of us have been told to cut any bottle or can rings before throwing them away this doesn’t necessarily mean they are any better off in the ocean. For example, marine life and sea birds often die as a result of eating the plastic debris as it makes its way through the ocean.

Up until this point there has been little progress made in attempting to fix this problem or changing the way manufacturers create their product.

Now, Saltwater Brewery is aiming to reinvigorate the market by offering a solution to the ongoing issue.

The company is using wheat and barley, that would otherwise be discarded in the brewing process, to manufacture 100 per cent biodegradable and edible six-pack rings.

The brewers partnered with advertising agency, We Believers, to create their prototype, which they believe to be the first of its kind.

The creative solution we bring forward has the potential to influence how we do sustainable packaging with zero waste and no impact on wildlife,” said Marco Vega, co-founder of We Believers.

Saltwater Brewery are hoping that their game-changing design will be taken up by the rest of the brewing and beverage industry, changing the fate of marine life around the world.

“We hope to influence the big guys,” Chris Goves, Saltwater Brewery’s president, said. “And hopefully inspire them to get on board.”
