The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid tribute to the victims of a helicopter crash outside Leicester City’s stadium on a visit to the city.

On Wednesday, Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out at Leicester City’s football stadium to honour those who died in a tragic helicopter accident last month, including the club’s chairman, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others.

According to the BBC, the royal couple, were scheduled to meet with the club’s staff and volunteers. They were then set to travel to the University of Leicester to learn about educational programs to which the club offers its support. The news network also reports that Prince William had personally known Srivaddhanaprabha for several years.

The duchess was polished as usual in a gray Catherine Walker coat dress, black tights and Tod’s black suede heels.

In memory of the five who lost their lives, flowers and messages were left near King Power Stadium, home of the football club.

Duchess Kate was photographed leaving a bouquet of flowers at the site, along with a card signed by the couple. “To Vichai and all those who died in this terrible tragedy, you will be dearly missed,” the note read. “Our sincere condolences to the city of Leicester.”

Also according to the BBC, the former chairman’s son, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, released a heartfelt statement about Kate and William’s visit saying, “For their Royal Highnesses to visit the city to pay their respects personally is a remarkable gesture of compassion to the families of those who lost their lives, to the staff and players of the club and to the people of the city whose lives were touched by my father.”
