Launching “Goodnight with Dolly”, the singer will be reading bedtime stories for children online.
The first reading kicks off this week, and will continue weekly as she reads books from her book gifting programme the Imagination Library.
“This is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while, but the timing never felt quite right,” said Parton. “I think it is pretty clear that now is the time to share a story and to share some love.”
In a video shared on her Facebook, the country singer is seen in bed in her pyjamas, with a book and reading glasses in hand.
The free 10-week series starts with “The Little Engine That Could”, a book that Parton says is a special source of inspiration. It will be posted on her Facebook every Thursday, 7 pm EDT.
Alongside her reading series, Parton announced a donation of $1 million to coronavirus research at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.
