Does your birth season affect your temperament?

Does your birth season affect your temperament?
Babies born in summer are more likely to suffer from mood swings when they grow up, according to a new Hungarian study.

Scientists also discovered that found that winter babies were less likely to grow into irritable adults.

A study of 400 people matched their personality type with the time of year they were born. The Budapest research team concluded that the seasons had a direct impact on certain monoamine neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin, which are responsible for mood, adding that more research was needed to find out why.

Scientists detected that the number of people with a “cyclothymic” temperament, defined by frequent, rapid mood swings, was significantly higher among summer babies.

“Basically, it seems that when you are born may increase or decrease your chance of developing certain mood disorders,” Lead researcher, assistant professor Xenia Gonda said.

The study is being presented at the annual conference of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) in Berlin, Germany.
