Dior appoints head of popular fragrance brand as new Perfume Creation Director

With iconic and extremely popular scents like J’Adore, Miss Dior and Sauvage in its stable, French luxury house Dior has a storied perfume history that runs parallel to its fashion creations.

Now there’s a new person responsible for bringing the essence of those beloved fragrances into a new era, as well as creating plenty that is fresh, exciting and new.

Parfums Christian Dior has announced Francis Kurkdjian to take over as the new Perfume Creation Director, succeeding François Demachy, who has held the role since 2006, as he retires.

Kurkdjian is the vision behind LVMH-owned renowned fragrance brand Maison Francis Kurkdjian which he co-founded in 2008 with Marc Chaya. Its popular fragrances like Baccarat Rouge and À La Rose are available here through Mecca stores and online and the brand’s Gentle Fluidity Gold and Silver releases has furthered the popularity of ungendered fragrances.

Kurkdjian will remain as artistic director for the brand alongside the Dior role.

Alongside his own brand Kurkdjian has a successful career as a ‘nose’ creating scents for other brands. At only 25, in 1995 Paris-born Kurkdjian created his first men’s fragrance for Jean-Paul Gaultier called Le Mâle, a global hit that launched his career, and he has since created scents for brands such as Burberry, Elie Saab, Versace, YSL, Narcisco Rodriguez and plenty more.

Kurkdjian has created perfumes for Dior before, including two first fragrances of La Collection Privée – Eau Noire and Cologne Blanche.

“It is a tremendous honor for me to join Parfums Christian Dior, a Maison with a richly inspiring history and a resolutely future-facing creative spirit,” Kurkdjian said in a statement. “I am delighted to share my vision through my fragrance creations. Working at Maison Dior while continuing to create for my own Maison is a great privilege.”
