In addition to the British monarch and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles and Camilla also attended the annual soirée. Tiaras were a must for the ladies, with most guests wearing sashes and medals that indicated various royal honours.
The Duchess of Cambridge paired her tiara with the striking Nizam of Hyderabad necklace – a piece loaned to her by the Queen. Her blue sash symbolises her role as a member of the Royal Victorian Order, which she received from the Queen in April as a gift for her eighth wedding anniversary with Prince William. She also wore her soft yellow Royal Family Order, a separate honour, which made its debut in October of 2018. The Royal Family Order features a jewel encased image of the Queen pinned on a chartreuse yellow ribbon and worn is on the left shoulder. The miniature portrait, painted on glass, depicts the Queen as a young woman in evening dress wearing the ribbon and star of the Order of the Garter.
Queen Elizabeth sported a white Angela Kelly state gown for the occasion, a look which she paired with white gloves and the Vladimir tiara with emerald and diamond drops.
