The pop of a cork, and pour of fine bubbles… nothing says celebration quite like a bottle of sparkling wine.

When it comes to choosing a sparkling wine to commemorate your big day, the decision on the ultimate drop is very personal. Chief Winemaker at Grant Burge Wines, Craig Stansborough, says that it’s about the moments created, the people it’s shared with and the places where you enjoy a premium sparkling wine that makes selecting that perfect bottle of bubbly such a personal, and special decision.

For a long time, the preferred sparkling wines that signified a very special occasion, such as a wedding, are the sparkling wines from Champagne. But things are changing.

Quality sparkling wines such as the Grant Burge NV Sparkling Pinot Noir Chardonnay are now revelling in a spot at the main table at weddings across the country over the traditional French Campaigns and Proseccos, offering real value for money. “I definitely recommend looking to local options over some of the more popular Champagnes. Choosing a striking bottle like ours also adds a nice wow factor when buying a bottle to enjoy with friends or to commemorate that special occasion,” says Stansborough.

Australia produces a diverse range of sparkling white wines and has a history steeped in great bubbly and fortified wines – long before the boom in Australian table wines. “Our Pinot Noir Chardonnay Sparkling has been a labour of love for the last 20 years. We have always looked to source the very best fruit from premium cool climate vineyard sites in areas such as the Adelaide Hills and the Alpine regions of Victoria for this wine. The grapes from these regions produce delicate, yet quite intense flavours, as well as the natural acidity and lean, elegant structure that are required to make high-quality sparkling wine,” Stansborough explains, adding that there’s also something special about supporting local producers. Depending on your chosen wedding venue, you may wish to support a producer from the same area – think Adelaide Hills, The Yarra Valley or Great Western – all fantastic sparkling white wine regions.

Australian sparkling wines of all shapes and styles are also foaming into glasses at launches, dinners and drinks, picnics and parties, wine bars and wine lists everywhere. Stansborough firmly believes that Australian sparkling wines can be enjoyed just as much for everyday occasions – celebrating life – as when celebrating love. “What other wine styles can you enjoy equally with brunch, lunch, and dinner? I love the versatility of sparkling wine,” he enthuses. Enjoy your chosen bottle in the bridal salon, after the ceremony, on the bridal table and even at a post-wedding lunch the next day. Affordable Australian bubbly makes this possible without compromising on the quality and that ‘special’ factor when popping your chosen bottle.

Based in the Barossa Valley, Grant Burge Wines is a leading producer of sparkling, white, red and fortified wines. For more on their sparkling wine offering, visit grantburgewines.com.au.
