Can sitting too much increase anxiety levels?
New studies reveal that sitting for long periods of time can lead to an increase in anxiety levels.

We all know that sitting too much increases out likelihood of deep vein thrombosis, weight gain and muscle tension, but what we didn’t know, was that staying chained to your desk all day, can actually make you anxious.

According to a new study from Deakin University’s Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (C-PAN), staying still is not as relaxing as we thought it would be.

The researchers looked at nine different studies to examine the correlation between anxiety and sedentary behaviour and found that the longer the person sat – the more likely of them developing a nervous disorder.

The study isn’t just talking about sitting at a desk during work hours, the hours spent watching TV, glued to a computer screen or driving a car are also increasing our risk of anxiety.

The studies revealed that this link between  time spent stationary and anxiety could be due to disturbances in sleep patterns, poor metabolic health and social withdrawal theory.
