Bringing awareness to the heartbreaking reality of Moto Neurone Disease
In New Zealand, over 400 people are living with Moto Neurone Disease.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) refers to a group of diseases that cause the death of the nerve cells. These vital cells control the muscles that enable us to move, speak, swallow and even breath.

It’s a devastating disease – globally, 4 to 5 million people now alive today will die from MND.

“Eventually, all mobility may be lost entirely, as was the case for my Uncle,” says Nicola Simpson, volunteer at MND New Zealand. “He could speak with effort, and only move his eyes. Vision, hearing, mental capacity and sensory nerves of touch/pain are not damaged – hence a ‘locked in syndrome’.”

Raising much-needed awareness and support for those affected by the disease, MND New Zealand is hosting a series of events across the country from November through February.

“These events provide an opportunity for people impacted by motor neurone disease (MND) to come together, raise awareness, honour those living with MND, and commemorate loved ones lost to the disease,” says MND New Zealand.

You can register a team, donate or volunteer to support the cause.
